The Tensho Koshirae is another highly stylised Iaito, with unique features linked with the swords made in this style in 16th century. The Tensho Koshirae is famous as being the style of sword of Akechi Mitsuhide, general of Oda Nobunaga, whose rebellion led to the eventual establishment of the Tokugawa Shogunate, a dynasty which spanned 250 years and brought Japan into the modern age.
Characterised by a buffalo horn Kashira wrapped in Makikake style, where the Tsuka Ito wraps over the top of the fitting, and a simple decoratively grooved Fuchi, the Tensho Koshirae features hardwearing silk Ito material and a matching Sageo.
Often paired with the thick, iconic, Hyotan (gourd) Tsuba, the custom Tensho model offers options to customise Tsuba, Ito colour and Saya, along with a myriad of technical options to make this Iaito truly your own.
