After such a long wait the British Kendo Association was very pleased to finally have hosted the 20th European Jodo Championships, which took place on 16-18 September 2022 in Stevenage. The event was postponed from 2020 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and was a much anticipated event by both practitioners and officials. The preparation involved a lot of work, securing the venue and dates with the support of the European Kendo Federation (EFK) and the Zen Nippon Kendo Renmei (ZNKR, aka the All Japan Kendo Federation), organising the grading (up to 7-Dan) the competition, accommodation bookings and organising lunches for attendees. For the first time the individuals also involved a 6th Dan open competition.
The UK Squad had a particularly successful event, securing 3 gold medals (in 6-Dan, 2-Dan and Team competitions), 1 silver medal (in 3-Dan competition), 2 bronze medals (in 6-Dan and in 1-dan competitions) and 2 fighting spirit medals (in 6-Dan and 3-Dan).
The BKA would like to thank the EKF, ZNKR, many volunteers who freely gave their time to help run the event, and Nine Circles for their sponsorship and generous prices for the Team winners and team players fighting spirits.
We were honoured for the opportunity to sponsor the European Jodo Championship this year! Congratulations to all the participants! We hope you all had a wonderful experience and enjoyed the event.
